when muting in-game players that we're not wanting to associate with by using the !sm command, this doesn't issue an ignoremsg on the user, and we're able to still see the user talk in-game

there's ways around this by doing "ignoremsg" in console, but that's a global mute for all players -- including the new features that CS:GO released recently that allows us to mute all players outside of our friends; additionally blocking communications is another option that doesn't ignore the user due to the chat parsing of the plugins used -- this is from my experience at least

i'd like to see if it's possible to implement, or adjust, the !sm plugin to ignore all communication from that user, including in-game chat

thanks

Interesting, I was not aware that chat was not covered by self-mute. I'll go ahead and look into this!

what you are experiencing is more then likely a player leaving the server a map change or some other event which triggers the player to have all active sm's to be rather non existent example if jimmy types retry in console every time bob uses sm on jimmy then jimmy will have nulled all efforts of bob making use of sm on jimmy.

TL:DR the sm issue is more so a cache issue or the lack of a cache then anything else.

a discussion presented itself which included myself and a few other players in the community about the self-muting feature of the server -- indicating that it didn't mute out the in-game text, we tested that theory whilst still maintaining the same results as previously stated by myself in this thread: we were able to communicate to one another through in-game chat as it exclusively only muted voice communications; this was while we were still in the same session

I use to only use chat on another server and never used voice and the same thing you described persisted for many how ever the access I had was higher then many others have you tested this with people who lack any form of access or rather any flags so those who lack what might be described better here https://wiki.alliedmods.net/Adding_Admins_(SourceMod)

interesting question - i tested this with other users of the community, non-staff or VIP on both sides, although unaware if such privileges would have an impact on a plugin unless it's coded into the self-mute plugin specifically to limit users with default flags of muting voice communications only and leaving in-game chat still afloat, that'd be a bit odd though i think!! i believe it might have something to do with more of the chat parser of surftimer or something similar due to when in CS:GO's newly implemented options, we're able to mask all users names with more friendly names, which displays accordingly on the scoreboard & in-game chat of official servers, however, with Sneak's, the in-game chat still resorts to the individuals alias, overruling those settings entirely which ... i think it could have something to do with the ranking system, or titles in-game perhaps, i'm not too sure about that :)

if I'm being honest there is countless flaws with the self mute plugin and there has been for years I my self have not made use of it in years simply due to it having so many issues and the ability to right click someones name and click block makes that plugin almost useless due to the higher reliability and how much easier it is for many users if not all.

At the end of the day, people should really be using the scoreboard to easily block communication and move on. !sm is just a user-friendly alternative, but it should function as expected.

righto, it's no big issue or suggestion ! thanks for the responses; if anything, it's a little heads up about the plugin -- this adjustment might not be too worth the trouble as it might delve deeper rather than some variables to change quickly
