it's a suggestion i'm positive has been suggested in the past

+ implement customized in-game ranks for the ranking system instead of the default timer ranks; an ex-popular set of ranks from the opium gaming community back years ago, which is no longer around: Beginner, Rookie, Amature, ☆ Amature, Advanced, ☆ Advanced, Skilled, ☆ Skilled, ☆Buttery, ♞Veteran, Elite, ♛ Elite, Master, ♛ Master, ♛ Legendary

the points system seems to be decently ironed out, especially with the amount of people that's frequently in the server, which is a good thing -- legendary use to be the highest rank possible, and only give to the top 1% of players that held a multitude of records, et cetera

I might be wrong on this, but I think that default ranks are hard-coded in relation to when you have a certain % of points. At least I think KZ does this (?) so I assume surf works the same way, but again, might be wrong. So adding more default ranks would technically be possible, sneak would just have to come up with the point markers for each one.

For custom ranks, if they are actually hard coded in, it would be a little difficult to set that up. He might be able to do some type of plugin where it would automatically create a new rank and assign it to you, but not sure if that's easily possible. Also might kinda infringe on the VIP benefits, since they get access to more ranks that aren't available to regular players. All that being said, I agree that it'd be cool if there were some type of recognition to show if you're in the top 10 of the server or something, but that might be hard to implement.

i wasn't talking about anything difficult in the sense of altering source, but merely altering the skillgroups file in his surf timer, which is just an ini file and available to be customized easily -- the skill groups the server currently has is quite a default set of skill groups

---------

one additional suggestion

- remove afk manager in-game and replace it with kicking players if they're idle for a period of time; the afk manager isn't all that necessary, and it's quite an annoyance to see people be moved to spectator just to join back on a team -- if the server is wanting to implement required activity, it'd be best to issue an idling kick feature (10-15minute idle, etc)

right, my suggestion was to merely remove the afk manager; due to being idle & being kicked anyhow, it's not too necessary to be moved to afk unless there's strict limitations on amount of players that can join a team (by default there isn't, it's based on server slots)

This is rapidly expanding into a few different topics, let me touch on each one:

Ranks:
Our ranks and ranking system is nowhere near "default", I'm not sure where you got this from. As outlined in this post, there is a list of ranks and points for said ranks. These ranks are calculated by a finely tuned percentage from the total number of possible points, so the actual point requirement changes as new maps are added.

I personally believe we have too many ranks to begin with, and this will change in the future with an entire point system rework. Some of that discussion was held here, you might want to put your input in that thread!

AFK's:
AFK's are moved to spec after a certain amount of time, then kicked for inactivity after that time. AFK kicks only happen on spectators. The move to spec is for a few reasons, including afk spectators not earning store credits, and saving us constant timers/calculations running for people who aren't using them. I don't think it's incredibly unreasonable or too horribly inconvenient to press m and enter, or use sm_tele to resume your run.

Didn't mean to shut you down, I appreciate the input! I was just explaining our ranks and reasonings a bit, hope that's helpful. I'll close this out for the meantime, feel free to post again if you have any other input. :)
